Sue made a motion to send a budget request to ASLCC to fund a trip for 6 Scifi Club members +adviser to go to M.E.W. con, included expenses; hotel, travel, perdiem.
If request is denied, trip will be paid for out of club funds up to $600 starting with registration fees.

Voting - motion was passed unanimously with 4 yays
Other business postponed to December 2nd meeting.
There will be a meeting on December 9th
Ended meeting with the 'jedi drinking song'

Announcement!

The LCC Science Fiction Club is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the Student Clubs Room, Student Center 216. Our next meeting will be held on December 2nd.

Our 2009-2010 club organizing meeting will be held Friday, October 2, 12:00-1:00 and 1:00-2:00 p.m. at LCC in Student Center 216 (the Clubs and Orgs room). Current and prospective members can come to either or both hours to learn more about the club, help us decide when the club will meet, and discuss what we'll do this year. Hope you can join us! :-)

Our first meeting of November started with a thank you to the club for the help with the Harvest festival booth.

Announcements/business/assorted randomness

The club bylaws were further discussed and voted upon.
A discussion was started on weather the club should focus more on discussing or viewing scifi material. The club decided on doing a combination of both.
A discussion of the website brought up weather the club should continue to use the wetpaint site or move to another.
A plea was made for new officers, voting in April as the new recording officer and Sue as the new club ambassador.
Togusa made several announcements, including budget consideration.
A suggestion was made that the club create a time outside of meetings to view and discuss scifi material.

About Us:

The Science Fiction Club provides a community where students interested in science fiction can discuss science fiction stories, novels, shows, and movies.

What do we do?

At club meetings, members discuss science fiction and related topics. Members are also informed of upcoming events such as conventions, and they help support events held on campus such as science fiction film festivals.

Who can join and how?

All LCC students are welcome to join simply by attending the meetings and signing in.

Club Meetings:

Meetings are held every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the Student Center 2nd floor Room 216 (the Club and Orgs room) for Fall Quarter 2009.

Meeting Minutes for Wednesday, October 14, 2009

The SF Club's first official meeting (attended by 7 members) began with introductions from Klint Hull, club adviser, and each of the prospective club officers. Elections for President, Vice President, Treasurer and Recording Officer were held. After voting, we now have the following officers:

Tiffany Jones -- Club President
Nathaniel Exum -- Club Vice President
Lwanga (Charles) Nsubuga -- Club Treasurer
Jennifer Hutcheson -- Club Recording Officer

Congratulations to each elected officer!

Announcements about the following topics were presented during the meeting:

Never Bored Games is considering a potential sponsorship or event.
The club may host a table at Parents Night (Thursday).
The club may consider participating in the Halloween film festival.
Members may be interested in the humanities conference.

The club discussed the following topics:

Designs for T-shirts--members should brainstorm over the next week and offer ideas at the next meeting.
Possible club names--members should brainstorm names for the club as well this week.
Movie night--what Halloween-related SF movies could we present on movie night? Brainstorm this as well.

The club began the following activities for discussion:

The club listened to "Red Barchetta" by Rush and examined its lyrics for SF elements.
The short story "Would You Rather" (in the Salal Review) was assigned as homework. Members should read the story and prepare to discuss it at the next meeting.

What: A day in Seattle- EMPSFM, Pacific Science Center, or Space Needle. (the biggy is the Museum)

When: Sunday, August 16, 2009. Gather time is at 8:00am.

Where: Lower Columbia College, 1600 Maple St. (the road that is between the Longview Public Library and Main Building). Probably the parking spots nearest to the door.

Discussed club table for Salaal event: two tables or one between Scifi and anime clubs.

Discussed Red Devil days club table Tuesday May 26th setup is 10am event goes from 11am-1pm.

Discussed sandwich boards rules and regulations. worked on sandwich board flier.

Agreed to meet next week in clubs and orgs room and then proceed to go to Three Rivers Cinema to view Star Trek during the 4pm showing.

Today is the day: "Star Trek"

What: Club event which is to watch the new movie as a club.

When: Thursday, May 21. Carpool meeting time- 3:15 @ LCC Student Center Parking Lot.
Movie starts at 4:00 pm.

Where: Regal Three Rivers Mall 5-1301 Grade Street, Kelso, WA 98626.

How: Bring some money to purchase a ticket and some refreshments.

Discussed "important" matters- allotted amount of funds for next year. Red Devil Days and Spring arts festival with our involvement in a possible booth.

Good news- LCC's Cyber Cafe is opening on may 11th.

Movie/Short Story discussion- Talked about the series "Farscape" and the short story "Reasons."

Movie/Series- Watched Total Recall 2070.

Next Week's viewing-by majority vote, Ghost in the Shell.

Meeting Minutes for Thursday, April 16th, 2009

The meeting began with the attendees introducing themselves.

Astral Anomaly is now listed on LCC’s website under:
Campus Life -> Clubs & Organizations -> Science Fiction Club
On this page, we have a brief description of the club along with some general information, such as the time and place for our meetings. We’re allowed to feature a picture on this page, so we will probably add an image of our poster sometime in the near future.

We now have a website: http://astralanomaly.wetpaint.com/
It doesn’t feature much content yet. We encourage members to register on the site and start contributing.

We held a brief discussion of Firefly, which was shown in part last week.

Members are encouraged to share ideas regarding movies & television series for the club to watch.

Several possible movies were discussed, including the original versions of Planet of the Apes, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy BBC TV series.

We discussed reading material to suggest to the club in order to hold future discussions.

A vote was held and we decided to assign Isaac Asimov’s short story, Reason, for reading so that we can have a discussion about it next week.

The story is freely available online, and a link will be posted on our site.

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was mentioned as possible club reading material for the future.

We watched the first episode of Farscape. Our meeting size doubled from last week.

The next meeting will be held Thursday, 3:30PM, April 23rd in the Clubs & Orgs room.
